Friday 17th February: Phillip Hopkins (chromatic harmonica) & Rachel Fryer (piano)

The chromatic harmonica has featured extensively in twentieth century popular music but is equally at home in classical music. Phil and Rachel will take you on a journey from J.S.Bach’s sonata BWV 1031 (arranged for harmonica) to John Barry’s harmonica theme from the movie Dances With Wolves, visiting a Clara Schumann Romance, Gabriel Fauré’s Berceuse op 16 and Debussy’s Children’s Corner along the way. Tribute will also be paid to the most famous harmonica player of all time, Larry Adler, involving music by George Gershwin and Arthur Benjamin.
